Gambhir recently made a statement about his future, where he said that he is “happy” at the moment and “not looking too far ahead”. After this statement, the chances of him being chosen as the head coach have increased.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started the evaluation of the next head coach, as Rahul Dravid’s tenure is set to end after the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Gambhir has been heavily linked for the role, and many former cricketers have also backed him to become the head coach.

During an event in Kolkata, Gambhir replied to the journalist, “I cannot look that far ahead. You are asking me tough questions. It is difficult to answer right now. All I can say right now is that I am happy to be here. I have finished a great journey with Kolkata Knight Riders, enjoy it. I am very happy right now.”

Gambhir has already expressed his desire that he would like to coach the Indian team. He has said that if he gets this opportunity, it would be a great honor for him.

Now that Dravid’s time is slowly coming to an end, Gambhir has stressed the need to treat everyone equally instead of focusing on individual players.

He said, “In team sports, the team is the most important. The team is the most important component of that organisation. Individuals play roles and individuals contribute, but ultimately if 11 people are treated equally, if 11 people get equal respect, if everyone is treated equally, given equal respect, given equal responsibility, given equal respect, then you will achieve incredible success. You cannot discriminate in any system or organisation.”
